Surface Treatment Services
Tenaris-certified phosphating for carbon steel tubulars and shot peening for CRA materials — anti-galling surface treatment to international standards
Thread galling is one of the most common causes of connection failure in oil and gas tubular operations. Proper anti-galling surface treatment — applied correctly, to the right specification, with qualified materials and processes — is the difference between a connection that performs and one that fails on the first makeup attempt.
Elmoj operates a Tenaris-certified phosphating system and a dedicated shot peening unit, providing anti-galling surface treatment for carbon steel and Corrosion Resistant Alloy (CRA) tubulars and components — integrated as part of our CNC machining, thread repair, and manufacturing workflows.
Services
Phosphating — Carbon Steel (Tenaris-Certified)
Elmoj’s phosphating process is certified by Tenaris — the world’s leading manufacturer of premium OCTG — confirming that our process meets Tenaris’s own requirements for anti-galling surface treatment of threaded tubular connections.
We operate both bath and spray phosphating systems, applying:
- Zinc Phosphate — for standard anti-galling protection on API and premium connections
- Manganese Phosphate — for enhanced wear resistance and anti-galling on high-load connections
Applications:
- API casing and tubing threads
- TenarisHydril premium connection threads
- BHA and drill string connection threads
- Wellhead and X-mas tree component threads
- Manufactured accessories and couplings
Shot Peening — CRA Materials
For Corrosion Resistant Alloy (CRA) tubulars and components, where phosphating is not applicable, Elmoj performs shot peening using a dedicated shot peening unit.
Shot peening introduces compressive residual stress into the surface layer of the material — improving fatigue life, resistance to stress corrosion cracking, and surface hardness without altering the dimensional integrity of the connection.
Applications:
- CRA casing and tubing connections
- CRA downhole tools and components
- High-stress connection surfaces requiring surface hardening
Why Surface Treatment Matters
Anti-galling surface treatment is not optional on premium connections. TenarisHydril and Vallourec VAM both specify surface treatment requirements as part of their connection makeup procedures. Skipping or improperly applying surface treatment is one of the most common causes of premium connection damage during makeup — and one of the most preventable.
Because Elmoj’s phosphating process is Tenaris-certified, customers can be confident that surface treatment applied at our facility meets the same standard required by the connection manufacturer.
